Take I-40 to exit 440 for US-321. From Knoxville/Tri-Cities, turn right onto US-321. From Asheville, turn left onto US-321. Travel for 2.3 miles, and then turn left to stay on US-321. Travel another 6.8 miles, and then turn right to continue on US-321. Roamstead is 2.6 miles ahead on the left.
From downtown Gatlinburg on US-441, turn slight right onto East Parkway/US-321 N at Stoplight #3. Roamstead will be 15 miles ahead on your right.
Take US-321 toward Gatlinburg. At Stoplight #3, turn sharply left to continue on US-321 North/East Parkway. Roamstead will be 15 miles ahead on your right.
Roamstead is built for short-term vacationers, so we don't allow reservations longer than two weeks.
Battery powered e-bikes, e-scooters, and other single person modes of transportation are allowed on paved or gravel roads and walkways. Riders are to yield to pedestrians, RVs, and Roamstead staff carts at all times. Riders are liable for any damage caused to the property or any other guest, or guest's property. Roamstead Smoky Mountains is not liable for any injury or property damage a rider incurs while operating any type of bike, scooter, or personal transportation vehicle on campground property. On site staff have the authority, at their discretion, to restrict or ban use of any type of bike, scooter, or other transportation device if it is disruptive to other guests or the property. Gasoline powered bikes, scooters, and other transportation devices are not permitted. Private golf carts are not permitted at Roamstead Smoky Mountains.
Unfortunately, we don't have fully accessible accommodations at this time. The bathrooms in our cabins are too small for wheelchairs, and our pathways are gravel. However, we do have accessible bathrooms in our communal bathhouse, and we hope to add fully accessible accommodations in the future!
At Roamstead, we try to make your camping adventure as easy as possible. Linens are provided for your comfort. We also have a camp store with snacks, beverages, and camping gear. For meals, we have an onsite restaurant serving breakfast and pizza. Firewood and ice are also available for purchase form our camp store. Be sure to pack your adventure gear, like hiking shoes, backpack, and weather appropriate clothing. The Smokies are a temperate rainforest, so bring your rain jacket just in case! During the summer months, there are plenty of opportunities for water fun, from the on-site pool, to white water rafting, tubing, rock hopping, and water parks. So, swimsuits are a must!
Yes! Roamstead provides all bedding and towels for our guests in cabins, yurts, and lodge rooms. We also provide pool towels to all guests.
Generally speaking, we do not guarantee a specific site number, just your site type. However, we can hold a site for you for an additional $30 site lock fee, subject to availability.
Well-behaved pets are welcome at Roamstead. We just ask that you include your pets on your reservation, as some of our guest facilities are pet-free to accommodate guests with allergies. We want to make sure you’re in the right room! There is a pet fee of $10 per night, per pet for our cabins and yurts. Max of 2 pets per cabin, yurt, and tent site, and 3 pets on RV sites. Pets must be leashed at all times, and owners must clean up after potty breaks, disposing properly of the bags.
Quiet hours are between 10PM and 8AM.
Absolutely! Nature is the best playground. We offer a number of amenities for our youngest guests, including the pool, a playground, yard games, and our Roamstead Ranger Activity Book. We find that kids have the best time playing together and making new friends! We just ask that parents accompany kids while on the property, and that kids are respectful of the property and other guests.
Check out is 10AM for cabins, yurts and lodge rooms, 12PM for RV and tent sites. You may request a late check-out up to 24 hours in advance, subject to availability. If you are experiencing mechanical issues with your RV that will delay your departure, let the office know by 10AM. If late checkout is not arranged with management, an additional charge of $100 per hour will be assessed for late departures with a minimum of a one hour charge.
Check in is 2PM for RV and tent sites, 4PM for cabins, yurts, and lodge rooms. If you arrive early, we are happy to see if your room is ready; however, we can’t guarantee that an early check-in will be available.
Due to the community feel of our park, no smoking is permitted in the cabins, yurts, lodge rooms, and tent sites areas, this includes the exterior porches. A $350 fee will be incurred for smoking inside your accommodation. Smoking is also prohibited in community areas, including our pavilion, swimming pool, activity yard, community fire pits, playground, bathrooms, and common area walkways. RV/tent campers are permitted to use tobacco products on their site. Please do not leave cigarette butts on the ground or in firepits. A $200 fee will be incurred if cigarette butts are disposed of improperly. This policy refers to cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, and burning of candles or incense.

No, the yurts don’t have private bathrooms, but there are toilets nearby, and our beautiful, spa-like bath house is right around the corner.
Your reservation includes one car. Additional cars may be added to your reservation for $25/night, and may have to be parked on our property across the street, depending on size..
The full amount of your stay will be collected to hold your reservation. You may cancel for a 95% refund or modify your dates for no charge up to 10 days ahead of your stay. This includes cancellations of all or part of your stay.
Within 10 days of your stay, no refunds or modifications will be made. Camping is a great outdoor experience; therefore, we do not give refunds due to inclement weather, unless management deems weather conditions to be dangerous due to flooding, snow, or ice. No refunds will be made for failure to check in, delayed arrival, early departure, changes in work schedule, or illness.
For group bookings, the group as a whole may cancel for a 95% refund or modify dates for no charge up to 30 days ahead of your stay. This includes cancellations for all or part of your stay. Between 30 days and 10 days of your stay, there is a 50% refund. Within 10 days of your stay, no refunds or modifications will be made. If individuals within the group must cancel their reservation, our standard cancellation rules apply.
We require a minimum of two nights on weekends (Friday/Saturday nights). Guests may not book stays of longer than 14 days.
There are designated guest parking areas throughout the property that are a short walk to your accommodation. If you have a difficult time walking, we can assist you to your room in a golf cart. Or, call us at booking, and we will do our best to place you in a room closest to the designated parking area.
We have several charging stations throughout the park. Please do not charge vehicles at the RV site podiums.
Our streams hold natural trout not large enough to eat. Fishing in streams is catch and release only. No treble hooks. Please be mindful of your surroundings while fishing.
Yes - bears are common in the Smoky Mountains. However, if everyone does their part by securing food inside their vehicle, cleaning up their site, and properly disposing of trash, we can help keep everyone on the property safe.
You’ll never be bored on this side of the Smokies! We’re a short drive to all the popular hikes in the National Park, like Clingman’s Dome, and Abrams Falls. But if crowds aren’t your thing, we can also point you to some amazing lesser-known trails within minutes of the campground. Aside from hiking, there’s fly fishing, ziplining, white water rafting, tubing, mountain biking, and swimming, all within an hour drive of Roamstead. Of course, we’re close to all those popular attractions like Dollywood, downtown Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge if you’re looking for some excitement. Or, you can stay on the quiet side with a relaxing day at the pool and a stroll through the shops in the nearby Great Smoky Mountains Arts & Crafts Community.
You can walk to the park from the property! Maddron Bald trailhead is directly behind the park. Roamstead is 30 minutes from the Sugarlands Visitor Center, which is the main entrance to the park. However, the Greenbrier entrance (15 minutes) and Cosby entrance (10 minutes) are close and offer many opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and rock hopping.
We offer a small menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We serve coffee and espresso, as well as craft beers and cocktails. If you’re into cooking yourself, we have communal grills located throughout the property!
We have fire rings at all sites, including cabins and yurts. We just ask that you keep a safe fire. Additionally, several communal fire pits are provided in the common areas.
